My PLN - Power to Play

Picture Fast, M. c2013

This year I got the opportunity to attend a Power to Play workshop put on by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario. This excellent workshop provided us with resources and ideas for teaching the health curriculum in the primary grades.
In the Power to Play kit that we received were many fantastic teaching aids such as a video starring  Brock Lee and Coco Lait who were nutrition superheros teaching children to make healthy choices about what they put in their bodies.  Along with this video was included a poster, meal recipe cards, and a teacher guide with lesson ideas.
During the workshop, our lovely presenter gave us some tips on how to use our kit in the classroom to engage students in learning about healthy active living and making good nutritional choices. She showed us some ideas of what worked well with kids, and things that may not work so well anymore in our age of technology and fast food.
I found this workshop to be very beneficial as health is not something that I previously knew how to attack in a way that would make it interesting to young children. I think the concept of kids learning from the adventures of Brock Lee and Coco Lait is amazing and I am very glad that the Dairy Farmer's came in to do this workshop!
